Yungang Grottoes – China -Buddha

The Yungang Grottoes formerly Wuzhousan Grottoes are ancient Chinese Buddhist temple Grottoes  near the city of Datong in the province of Shanxi.They are excellent examples of rock cut architecture and one of the three most famous ancient Buddhist scriptural sites of China.

The Five caves created by  Tan Yao represent the outstanding achievement of Buddhist Cave art in China in 5th and 6th Centuries. It consists of 252 caves and 51,000 statues.It is in UNESCO World Heritage Site .

Peoples Republic of China issued a miniature sheet on Yungang Grottoes -Buddha on 13 April 2006.
