Australia State Floral Emblems and PhilatelyNorthern Territory – Pre Stamped Envelopes Australia 1982

Australia Post issued a set of seven Pre stamped envelopes on the Australian States’ floral emblems on 19 May 1982.

Sturt’s Desert Rose – It was proclaimed as state floral emblem of Northern Territory in  1974 and honours the explorer Captain Charles Sturt. The Hibiscus like flower which blooms in the winter and spring months grows on a bush about 1.5m high with oval leaves dotted with tiny oil glands.

The Desert Rose is an arid zone plant which thrives in rocky areas in the southern parts of the state but also found in parts of South Australia, New South Wales and Queensland.
