Stamps on 2019 Rugby World Cup – Japan 2018

The Rugby World Cup is played every Four Years. The Inaugural World Cup was played in 1987 and was co-hosted by New Zealand and Australia. Eight editions of World Cup have been held till now. The last World Cup was played in England in 2015 and next world Cup which will be Ninth World Cup is scheduled to be held in Japan from 20 September 2019 to 02 November 2019. There will twenty teams participating in 2019 Rugby World Cup. New Zealand is current World Champions and has won the Webb Ellis Trophy thrice, Australia and South Africa have won it twice and England have won it once.

Japan issued a miniature sheet containing ten stamps on 2019 Rugby World Cup on 20 Aug 2018.

Spain issued a stamp on EXPO 2008 on 05 Jul 2007.EXPO 2008 was an InternationalExposition held in Zaragoza Spain from 14 Jun to 14 Sep 2008. 104 countries participated and approx 5,650,000 people visited the Exhibition. It was placed in a meander of the river Ebro. The theme was “Water and Sustainable Development”. The highlight was the Water Tower, River aquarium and building in the shape of a water drop.

The 0.58 euro stamp features a logo and ‘Fluvi’ Mascot. Fluvi is a little male drop of water. Qatar issued a miniature sheet on EXPO 2008.

Tokyo 2020 Olympics – Introduction and Countdown – 362 days to go.

Introduction

The 2020 Tokyo Summer Olympic Games will be held from 24 July to 09 August 2020 in Tokyo
These will be the Games of XXXII Olympiad.
206 nations are expected to take part in 339 events in 33 sports.
Over 11,000 athletes are expected to arrive at. various venues.
National Stadium in Tokyo will host the Opening Ceremony.
Miraitowa is the Official Mascot for Tokyo 2020.

Stamps on Tokyo 2020- Japan Post released a set of Stamps for sale on 12 Mar 2019- 500 days before the opening of the Games. A sheet of 10 stamps featuring the Mascots for Olympics and Paralympics and the Tokyo Stadium were issued.

Pan American Games 2019- Introduction.

Pan American Games are held every four years for the nations of the Americas. They are held one year prior to the Summer Olympic Games.

-The First Pan American Games were held in Buenos Aires in Argentina from 25 Feb to 09 Mar 1951. Over 2,500 athletes from 21 Countries participated in 18 Sports and 140 events. Argentina topped the Medals tally.

-The XVII or 17th Pan Am Games were held in Toronto in Canada from 10 Jul to 26 Jul 2015. Over 6,000 athletes from 41 Countries participated in 36 Sports and 364 events.

-The XVIII or 18th Pan Am Games will be held in Lima in Peru from 26 Jul to 11 Aug 2019. Over 6,600 athletes from 41 Countries are likely to participate in 39 Sports.

The USA has bagged 1944 gold medals till date in Pan Am Games followed by Cuba with 875 Gold Medals.

Milco in orange and Red (Colours of Peruvian Flag) is the mascot for Lima 2019 Pan Am Games.

Bangladesh Stamps on 1994 FIFA World Cup

The 1994 FIFA World Cup was held in the USA from 17 Jun to 17 Jul 1994. It was held in nine cities across the USA. Brazil beat Italy in Penalty shoot out in the finals held at Rose Bowl, Pasadena, California near Los Angeles.

Bangladesh issued a set of two twenty taka stamps with a vignette to commemorate the 15th FIFA World Cup. The stamps were issued on 17 June 1994.

The Vignette featured Striker -The Mascot for this World Cup. Striker -a Dog, a common US Pet animal wearing red, White & blue soccer uniform with the words “USA 94” was the mascot for this World cup.

The cancellation for the first day of issue featured the World Cup Trophy. A First Day cover with a pair of stamps and a vignette is listed.

BANGLADESH 1994 WC — BANGLADESH FDC 1994 FIFA WORLD CUP

Stamps on 1994 FIFA World Cup – Bhutan 1994.

Bhutan issued a 15 Nu stamp to commemorate the 15th FIFA World Cup. The stamp was issued on 17 Jul 1994 and featured the World Cup Trophy and Striker -The Mascot for this World Cup.

Striker -a Dog, a common US Pet animal wearing red, White & blue soccer uniform with the words “USA 94” was the mascot for this World cup.

Odisha Hockey Men’s World Cup Bhubaneswar 2018 – India

The 14th edition of Men’s World Cup Field Hockey known as Odisha Hockey Men’s World Cup Bhubaneswar 2018 is being held from 28 Nov 2018 to 16 Dec 2018 at Kalinga Stadium Bhubaneswar in Odisha India. 16 Teams are participating. India is hosting the WorldCup for the third time after Mumbai 1982 & Delhi 2010.

An odd shaped miniature sheet has been released by India Post on 27 Nov 2018 to commemorate this event. The miniature sheet is in the shape of an Olive Ridley turtle. The stamps feature The World Cup Trophy and the players with hockey sticks in different phases of the Game. One of the stamps also features the mascot “Olly” playing hockey which represents the Olive Ridley Sea Turtles. Lord Jagganath also features on the sheet.

Results for 05 Dec 2018 -Germany beat The Netherlands 4-1 in a superb display of Hockey. It was North European hockey derby among two hockey giants.

Results for 11 Dec and Quarter Final Line up for 12 & 13 Dec

The Netherlands beat Canada 5-0 to set up Quarter-Final Clash with Home team India. Belgium beat Pakistan 5-0 to qualify for Quarter Finals.
