Travancore Sisters – Special Cover 2008

Three sisters from Travancore made remarkable contribution to Tamil and Indian Cinema and are known as Travancore Sisters. Lalitha (1930-1983),Padmini (1932-2006) and Ragini (1939-1974).They were disciples of noted dancers Guru Gopinath and Uday Shankar. They co starred with Sivaji Ganesan ,M G Ramachandran,N T Rama Rao,Raj Kapoor,Prem Nazir and Rajkumar. Padmini acted with Sivaji Ganesan in 60 Films.

A Special cover was released on Travancore sisters on 01 Oct 2008 -on 80th birthday of Sivaji Ganesan.

Thanjavur or Tanjore is a historic temple town in Tamil Nadu rich for its cultural Heritage. Thanjavur Doll or “Thanjavur Thalai-Atti-Bommai” is atype of traditional Indian Bobble -Head or Roly-Poly toy made of terracota material.Its Centre of Gravity and total weight is concentrated at its bottom most central core all the the time so as to present a dance like continuous movement with slow damping oscillations. Hence it comes back to its normal seating position automatically after being tilted anyway.This doll has secured Geographical indication in the year 2007
