Stamps on 117th IOC Session –Singapore 2005

The 117th IOC Session was held in Singapore from 6-9 July 2005. Up to 5000 officials, media people came to Singapore to witness five of the world’s most glamorous and vibrant cities – Paris, New York, Moscow, London and Madrid-contend for the privilege to host 2012 Summer Olympics. The destiny and Olympic Programmes of each of 28 Olympic Sports was also on the agenda.

London won the right to host the 2012 Summer Olympics.

The 2012 Summer Olympics or XXX Olympics were held in London from 27 July to 12 Aug 2012. A total of 10,768 athletes from 204 Nations participated in 26 Sports, 39 Disciplines and 302 events. The USA topped the medals tally with 46 Gold Medals

Singapore issued a set of four stamps to commemorate the 117th IOC Session. The Stamps featured the location of five contenders for 2012 Olympics onWorld Map and Olympic sports

The 2012 Summer Olympics or XXX Olympics were held in London from 27 July to 12 Aug 2012. Sri Lanka issued a set of four stamps and a miniature sheet 23 Jul 2012 to commemorate the Olympics. A total of 10,768 athletes from 204 Nations participated in 26 Sports, 39 Disciplines and 302 events. The USA topped the medals tally with 46 Gold Medals.

A FDC is listed with Four Stamps. The FDC is cancelled at Westminster House Colombo -the official Residence of British High Commissioner in Sri Lanka.

Stamps on Uber Cup -Indonesia 1994

The Uber Cup sometimes called the World Women’s Team Championships was first held in 1956-57 and then every three years from 1957 to 1981. From 1984 onwards it is being held every two years. The Uber Cup is now held concurrently with Thomas Cup. The 2018  Thomas Cup (30th edition) and Uber Cup (27th edition) were held in Bangkok from 20-27 May 2018. Stamps have been released on Thomas Cup by various countries.

Indonesia issued a stamp on Uber Cup Badminton Championships Victory at Jakarta in 1994. Indonesia defeated China 3-2 to win the Uber Cup. It was held in Jakarta and was the 15th edition of Uber Cup The stamps were issued on 22 Jun 1994. China has won the title 14 times till date, Japan Six times & Indonesia three times. Indonesia and South Korea have been runners-up seven times each.

The Thomas Cup sometimes called the World’s Men Team Championships was held every three years from 1948 to 1982. From 1982 onwards it is being held every two years. The Women’s team championships known as Uber Cup is held concurrently with Thomas Cup. The 2018  Thomas Cup (30th edition) and Uber Cup (27th edition) were held in Bangkok from 20-27 May 2018. Stamps have been released on Thomas Cup by various countries.

Indonesia issued a set of three stamps on Thomas Cup Badminton Championships at Jakarta. The stamps were issued on 02 Jan 1973.

Malaysia issued a Miniature sheet on 25 Jul 1992 when Malaysia was crowned the 1992 Thomas Cup Champions. They defeated Indonesia 3-2 in 17th Thomas Cup held in Kuala Lumpur.

Malaysia issued a stamp on 11 May 2000 on Thomas Cup Championships held in Kuala Lumpur. The stamp features Flags of Participating Countries and the Thomas Cup Trophy.
