Pro Juventute Stamps of Switzerland – Christmas Candles & Mushrooms -1994

Pro Juventute is a charitable foundation in Switzerland established in 1912. It is dedicated to supporting the rights and needs of Swiss children and Youth. Since1913, the Swiss Post Office has been issuing an annual charity stamp series to support the work of  Pro Juventute. The Latin phrase “Pro Juventute” means “For the Children”

What makes these stamps interesting is that they have tended to run in a series of similar designs. The 1915-17 stamps show children in folk costumes; 1918-26, cantonal coats of arms; 1933-42, women in traditional cantonal dress; 1943-49, flowers; 1950-57, insects; 1958-64, flowers; 1965-67, animals; 1968-71, birds; 1973-76, forest plants; 1978-81, municipal coats of arms; 1983-86, children’s toys and fairy tales; 1987-90, child development; 1991-94, forest flora; 1995-98, animals again; 1999-2001, children’s books; 2002-05, children’s rights; and 2006-08, children’s art.

Later years’ issues have not been continuing series.

The Theme for 1994 series of four stamps issued on 28 Nov 1994 was Christmas Candles & Mushrooms. A Block of Four stamps of 100+50 Centimes featuring Shaggy Scalycap Mushrooms is listed.

A Rupees Two stamp was issued by India Post on 31 Jul 1990 to mark the 60th Anniversary of ICAR. It is an autonomous body which is responsible for coordinating the agricultural education and research in India. It was established on 16 July 1929 at  Delhi. ICAR has 4 Deemed Universities,65 ICAR institutions, 14 Research Centres, 6 National Bureaux and 13 Directorates under its domain as on Jan 2020. An FDC cancelled at 1 CBPO is listed.

Ireland issued a set of six stamps on National Parks on 06 Jun 2011 (World Environment Day). These were issued in Se-Tenant strips of three.

55c – Ballycroy National Park.- It was established as a National Park on 01 Nov 1998 and now covers 117.79 hectares. Blanket bogs, largest peatland, whooper swan,white-fronted goose are the attractions.

55c – The Burren National Park- It is the smallest national Park of Ireland with orchids, butterflies, moths, otters, Pine marten, Dolphins being the attractions,

55c – Connemara National Park.- It was opened to public in 1990 and covers 2000 hectares of land. Its attractions are bog cotton, orchids, Robins, Wrens etc.

82c -Glenveagh National Park.- It is the second-largest National Park in Ireland and was established in 1986. Red Deer and Pine trees are the attractions.

82c – Killarney National Park -It was First national Park of Ireland established in 1932 on land donated by Muckross estate. It now encompasses 25,425 acres of Land. It has beautiful oak and yew woodlands, Lake Killarney, wet woodlands, Red Deer, sika deer, wood warbler, garden warbler , osprey etc.

55c – Wicklow Mountains National Park- It is 54,000 acres protected area established in 1992 south of Dublin. It is located in Wicklow mountains and is known for Deciduous and Coniferous Woods, Bluebells, Polypody ferns, bats, rare otters and whooper swans.

The Royal Botanic Gardens Kew are located in Richmond upon the Thames in South West London. In 2018 it had 1,858,513 Public visitors. It became UNESCO World Heritage Site on 03 Jul 2003.

The Royal Mail issued a miniature sheet with four stamps on 19 May 2009 to mark the 250th Anniversary of Royal Botanic Gardens.

Australia issued a 10 dollar stamp in the Gardens of Australia Series on 12 Apr 1989. The stamp features the Adelaide Botanic Garden. The first day cover from Adelaide is listed. It is 51 Hectare Public Park containing Australia’s finest plant collection. It was opened in 1857 and entry is free. Other attractions in the Park include The Palm House built in 1877, Santos Museum, The Amazon waterlily Pavilion.
