Sir Charles Spencer Chaplin ,KBE (16 Apr 1889-25 Dec 1977) was an English comic actor,Filmmaker and composer who rose to fame during silent era. He become a World wide icon through his screen persona “The Tramp”. He is considered as one of the most important figures in the history of Film industry. His career spanned more than 77 years and his famous movies are The Gold Rush,City Lights, Modern Times ,The Great Dictator

On !6 Oct 1995 Bulgaria issued a set of Six stamps to commemorate Centenary of Motion Pictures & Cinema. One of the stamps featured Charlie Chaplin.

Bunga Raya – National Flower of Malaysia

Bunga Raya – National Flower of Malaysia – Hibiscus

Bunga Raya was selected as National Flower of Malysia on 28th July 1960. Bunga Raya is well known throughout the World as Hibiscus or Shoeflower and is botanically referred as Hibiscus rosa-sinensis. It belongs to the same family as cottonand okra or bendir. Hibiscus is the largest genus consisting of some 300 species which are widely distributed mainly in the tropics.

Hibiscus is an evergreen shrub and has five large petals which are free.The flowers have large range of colors white,Pink. Yellow & Pink to dark red.Some of the varieties are double or multi-petalled. The flowers are very large some hybrids measuring up to 25 cm in diameter.

Though scentless it can be used for beauty and medicinal value. Its use varies from being used to darken eyebrows,as shoe polish,cure fever,sore eyes etc.

It is grown throughout Mlaysia and Malaysia issue a set of Four stamps on Bunga Raya or Hibiscus on 12 Dec 1984. A FDC is listed.

Bikhoti Festival (Uttarkhand) –  People take  a dip in holy rivers.

Bohag Bihu (Assam) – Assamese New Year . also known as Rongali Bihu.

Vishu (Kerala).

Maha Vishuva Sankranti (Odisha)

Puthandu (Tamil Nadu) – Tamil New Year

Jurshitali ( Bihar & Nepal) – Mithila regions celebrate this festival.

RISGO Centennial 2013 – International Scout Jamboree Kandy

The most prestigious College of Kandy Dharmaraja College celebrated its Scout Centenary in 2013.The Kandy Dharmaraja Scout Group organised an International Scout gathering “RISGO Centennial -2013” (Rajans International Scout gathering of Centennial -2013). It was held at Lakeview Park International Scout Centre , Kandy.

A Commemorative stamp was issued on 18 Feb 2013 by Sri Lanka. The 25 rupees stamp shows Baden Powell and 500,000 stamps were printed. A FDC issued is listed.
