National Philatelic Week 93 – Envelopes of Bangladesh.

Bangladesh issued a Two Taka envelope on 10 Oct 1993. It carried the logo of National Philatelic Week 93 organised by BNPA (Bangladesh National Philatelic Association). The stamp features the National Monument of Bangladesh (Jatiyo Smriti Shoudho) located at Savar and opened in 1982.

It carried the logo of Banglapex 92 in green on top left and a Slogan in Bengali “Join National Philatelic Exhibition”.There were slogans in English also “Participate in the National Stamp Exhibition”. The stamp features the National Monument of Bangladesh (Jatiyo Smriti Shoudho) located at Savar and opened in 1982.

China issued a special commemorative cover featuring Great Wall of China. The Cover was issued on 29 Jul 1983 to mark China’s participation in Brasiliana Stamp Exhibition.

Palau’s Prince Lee Boo in England – A story on Palau Sheetlet 1990.

Prince Lee Boo (1764-1784) was the second son of the ruler of Pelew Islands now called Palau. Prince Lee Boo was one of the first people from the Pacific Islands to visit Great Britain. In 1783 Chinese trade ship Antelope working for East India Company shipwrecked on the island of Oroolong in western Palau while going to China. Its survivors including Captain Henry Wilson spent three months in Palau. When finally rescuedCaptain Wilson agreed to take Prince Lee Boo to Great Britain to acquaint him more about Europe. On his arrival in 1784, the Wilson family took him to their home where he attended Church ceremonies, dinner parties and European School. However, he died of smallpox on 27 Dec 1784, six months after his arrival. He was nicknamed “The Black Prince” and was buried in St Mary the Virgin Rotherhithe. Prince Lee Boo story appeared in a book by George Keate (1729-1797) called An account of Pelew Islands.

Palau issued a Sheetlet featuring the Visit of Prince Lee Boo to England. This MS also commemorates London 90 World Stamp Exhibition.it was issued on 03 May 1990. There are nine 25c stamps in the sheetlet. Each stamp features an event along with portraits of PrinceLee Boo and Captain Henry Wilson.
