Nicolaus Copernicus – 500th Birth Anniversary – Stamps of Poland.
Nicolaus Copernicus ( 19 Feb 1473 -24 May 1543) was a Renaissance era Mathematician and Astronomer who formulated a model of Universe that placed the Sun (Heliocentric Model)rather than earth at centre of Universe ,independently of Aristarchus of Samos who had formulated such a model eighteen centuries earlier.
The Publication of his Book On the Revolutions of Celestial Spheres just before his death in 1543 was a major event in the history of Science trigering Copernican Revolution .
Copernicus was born and died in Royal Prussia part of Kingdom of Poland. A Polyglot and polymath he obtained a Doctorate in Canon Law and was also a Classics Scholar,Physician ,Translator ,Governor, Diplomat ,Economist & Poet.In 1517 he derived quantity theory of money -a key concept in Economics- and in 1519 he formulated an economic Principle that later came to be called Gresham’s Law.
Poland issued a set of three stamps on 26 Jun 1969 to mark his 500th Birth Anniversary. The stamps feature paintings on him .

King Edward Medical University – 150th Anniversary – Stamps Of Pakistan 2012
King Edward Medical College Lahore was established in 1860 as Lahore Medical College. It is the Fourth oldest Medical School in South Asia after Medical College Kolkata (28 Jan 1835), Madras Medical College,Chennai (02 Feb 1835) and Grant Medical College Bombay (1845). On 12 Dec 1911 it was named as King Edward Medical College and in 2005 it was named as King Edward Medical University.
The present Mayo Hospital (affiliate Hospital) building was completed in 1870 and in 1871 named as Mayo Hospital after Earl of Mayo.Architect Purdon designed the building and Roy Bahadur Kanhaya Lal was the Engineer.
Pakistan issued a stamp on 28 Aug 2008 to mark 150th Anniversary of King Edward Medical University Lahore. A FDC is listed.
Rotary Club of Bangalore South -Birth Centenary Dr Jonas Salk -Special Cover 2015.
A Special Cover was released in Bangalore on 18 Jan 2015 to celebrate Birth Centenary of Dr Jonas Edward Salk (1914-1995) who discovered Polio Vaccine. the Cover was released by Rotary Club of Bangalore South.
Royal mail issued a stamp on 22 Jan 1975 with a face value of four & Half pence and a surcharge of one and half pence for health and handicap charities . This stamp is regarded as Royal Mail’s First Post Office Charity stamp.
