EUROPA Postage Stamps – Introduction
The EUROPA Postage Stamp ( also Known as CEPT till 1992) is n annual Joint Issue of Stamps with a common design or theme among the member countries of European Communities (1956-59), The European Conference of Postal and Telecommunications Administrations (CEPT) from 1962 to 1990 and Posteurop Association since 1993 .
Apart from promoting Philately this theme builds awareness of the common roots , culture & history of Europe and its common goals. Europa stamp issues are therefore one of the most collected and most popular themes .
The First EUROPA stamps were issued in 1956.
1956 – The First stamps were issued by Postal Administrations of Six founding members of European Coal and Steel Community (ECSC) with a common design -a tower made up of letters of word EUROPA and surrounded by construction scaffolding. The designer was Frenchman Daniel Gonzague. The six countries to issue stamps were Belgium, France,Germany, Italy, Luxembourg and Netherlands.
