Kim Clijsters ( born 8 June 1983) is a former Belgian Tennis player who has won four Grand Slam Singles titles – three US Open titles and the Australian Open in 2011. She was runner-up at the Australian Open in 2004. She also won French and Wimbledon Women’s Doubles titles and was a finalist at Wimbledon Mixed Doubles in 2000. In 2009 She became the First Mother to win a Major (US Open) since Evonne Goolagong in 1980. In 2017 She was inducted into International Tennis Hall of Fame.

The International Tennis Federation conducts Davis Cup – Men’s Team Tennis event. It is played on a knock out basis between teams of various countries. The 2002 Davis Cup final was played in France between Russia and France and Russia won the title defeating France 3-2. It was the 91st edition of Davis Cup. It was first Davis Cup title for Russia.

Russia issued two stamps and a miniature sheet on 19 Feb 2003 to mark this historic win.

The 8.00 Rouble stamp was issued in sheets of 10. The print run for stamps was 300,000 and 30,000 sheets were printed. It shows the Russian Flag and a tennis ball.

The 1972 Winter Olympic Games were held in Sapporo Japan from 03 Feb to 13 Feb 1972. This was the XIth edition of Winter Olympic Games. The First Winter Olympic Games were held in Chamonix, France in 1924. The next Olympic Games will be held in Beijing in 2022.

Japan won three medals at 1972 games (1Gold,1 Silver & 1 Bronze). USSR topped the medals tally with 16 Medals (8 Gold, 5 Silver & 3 Bronze Medals).

The French Open Tennis Tournament is also known as Roland Garros & is now played at Stade Roland Garros in Paris, France. French Open was first played in 1891. It is a clay court tournament played over last week of May and early June. The 2019 edition will be played from 26 May 2019 to 09 Jun 2019. French open is the second of the four Grand Slam tournaments held every year. The Roland Garros stadium is named after the French aviator Roland Garros. The First French Open to be played at Roland Garros stadium was in 1928.

Rafael Nadal has won 11 French Open titles in Men’s Singles and Chris Evert has won Seven Women’s singles titles.
