Fantastic Beaches of Sri Lanka on Miniature Sheets -2010

Sri Lanka issued three miniature sheets on 07 Sep 2010. The theme was Sri Lanka’s Fantastic beaches and these stamps were issued as part of Visit Sri Lanka Stamp series. Each miniature sheet was priced at  100 Sri Lankan rupees but the Face value of stamps was different.

15 SLR – Pasikdudah Beach. It is located 30 Kilometers north-west of Batticaloa. Pasikuda means “green-algae-bay”

Gordon Banks -All-Time Great Goalkeeper dies -RIP

England’s 1966 World Cup Winning Goalkeeper Gordan Banks passed away at the age of 91. He was regarded for being one of the best Goalkeepers that the Game has seen. He is perhaps most remembered for his “Save of Century” at the 1970 World Cup match against Brazil. He saved a Pele header. We pay our homage to this great Footballer and Goalkeeper.

A Stamp booklet was issued by North Bengal & Sikkim Region in Feb 2014. It was issued during Silipex 2014 and features Sachin Tendulkar on its Cover. The back cover features Kanchenjunga Stadium. It is a multi-purpose stadium in Siliguri, West Bengal having a capacity of 40,000 and was built in the 1980s.

Stamps on Games of Small States of Europe- Monaco 1987

Games of Small States of Europe is a biennial, multi-sport event being held since 1985. It was launched by San Marino and feature competition in nine Olympic Sports. Nine European small states (Population less than one million) take part in the Competitions. The 18th edition of the Games will be held from 27 May to 01 Jun 2019 at Budva, Montenegro.

Monaco issued a stamp on 23 Apr 1987 on 2nd European Small States Games held in Monaco from 14-17 May 1987. The stamp features Tennis players.

Australian Open 2019 – The Australian Open was first played at Warehouseman’s Cricket Ground in 1905. This facility is now known as the Albert Reserve Tennis Centre. The Australian Open 2019 will be played at Melbourne Park from 14 to 29 January 2019. This will be the 107th edition since 1905 and 51st in the Open era.

Men’s Singles – The Fab Four ( Federer, Nadal, Murray & Novak) of Men’s Tennis will take a Final Shot at the Title in Australian Open which begins today. They have won 50 of the last 55 Grand Slam Titles.

Roger Federer (born 8 August 1981) is a Swiss Tennis Player who has won a joint-record six Australian Open Men’s singles titles and a total of 20 Grand Slam singles titles. He is the current Australian Open Champion having won the title in 2018. Switzerland issued a stamp to honour Roger Federer on 10 Oct 2007. He is seen holding the Wimbledon Trophy in the stamp.

Novak Djokovic ( born 22 May 1987) is a Serbian Tennis player who is currently ranked No 1 in the World. He has won 14 Grand Slam singles titles including six joint-record Australian Open Titles. Serbia issued a stamp in his honour on 04 April 2008.  In 2008 Djokovic won the Australian Open and Olympic Gold.

In 2006 EUROPA celebrated its 50th Anniversary. Several Countries outside EUROPA also issued stamps to mark this event. Bhutan issued a set of two stamps and a Miniature sheet in 2006 to mark 50th Anniversary of EUROPA Stamps.

150 Nu – Jakar Dzong – The current Dzong was built in 1667 overlooking the Chokhor Valley. Its official name is Yuelay Namgyal Dzong in honour of Victory over the troops of Tibetan ruler Phuntso Namgyal.

Justin Henin Hardene (born 1 June 1982) is a former Belgian Tennis player who has won Seven Grand slam singles titles including the Australian Open in 2004. She was also the runner-up at the  Australian Open in 2006 & 2010. She won the French Open in 2003,2005,2006 and 2007 and USOpen in 2003 & 2007. She also won Gold in Women’s Singles at 2004 Olympics. At Wimbledon, she was a runner -up in 2001 and 2006. In 2016 She became the first Belgian Tennis Player to be inducted into International Tennis Hall of Fame.

Belgium issued a stamp in her honour on 21 November 2003.

Kim Clijsters ( born 8 June 1983) is a former Belgian Tennis player who has won four Grand Slam Singles titles – three US Open titles and the Australian Open in 2011. She was runner-up at the Australian Open in 2004. She also won French and Wimbledon Women’s Doubles titles and was a finalist at Wimbledon Mixed Doubles in 2000. In 2009 She became the First Mother to win a Major (US Open) since Evonne Goolagong in 1980. In 2017 She was inducted into International Tennis Hall of Fame.

Belgium issued a stamp in her honour on 21 November 2003.
