The First Winter Olympics were held in Chamonix, France in 1924 in which 16 Nations participated in 6 Sports, 9 Disciplines and 16 events in Men’s and Women’s Category.

The 1992 Winter Olympics or XVI Winter Olympics were held in Albertville France from 8-23 Feb 1992. The then French President Francois Mitterrand inaugurated the Games. A total of 1801 athletes from 64 Nations participated in 6 Sports, 12 Disciplines and 57 events. Germany topped the medals tally with ten Gold Medals. The unified German team was participating for the first time after unification in 1990. This was the last time when the Summer and Winter Olympics were held in the same year. The Winter Olympics were held in Lillehammer Norway in 1994.

The 1992 Summer Olympics or XXV Olympics were held in Barcelona Spain from 25 Jul to 09 Aug 1992.  A total of 9,356 athletes from 169 Nations participated in 25 Sports, 34 Disciplines and 257 events. King Juan Carlos I, inaugurated the Games. The unified team topped the medals tally with 45 Gold Medals.

Games of Small States of Europe is a biennial multi-sport event founded by San Marino and held since 1985. These are organised by and feature Nine small European States (Andorra, Cyprus, Iceland, Liechtenstein, Luxembourg, Malta, Monaco, Montenegro, San Marino, Vatican City). All members have a Population of less than one Million except Cyprus which had a population less than one million in 1984.

Nicosia (Cyprus ) hosted the 3rd Games in 1989 and Cyprus issued a set of stamps on 10 Apr 1989 to mark the event.
