Mother’s Milk Bank – Special Cover – India 2014
There are times when mother’s milk is not available to a newborn baby or the mother is unable to breastfeed the baby for any reason – such situations may compromise baby’s health and immunity.
Dr Armida Fernandez pioneered the establishment of Asia’s first Human Milk Bank at Sion Hospital Mumbai in 1989.Dr Jayashree Mondkar ,a Neonatologist,one of the Doctors who worked with Dr Fernandez is now carrying on running this Human Milk bank for last about 30 Years at Lokmanya Tilak Municipal General Hospital and Medical College Sion ,Mumbai.
A Special cover was released on 27 Nov 2014 to commemorate the 25 years of service to babies by this Mother’s Milk Bank- a very noble and humanitarian cause.
In fact now Mumbai has Seven Human Milk Banks the latest one having been opened at BYL Nair Hospital in Feb 2018.
