Thanjavur Art Plate – Special Cover – India 2015
Thanjavur or Tanjore is a historic temple town in Tamil Nadu rich for its cultural Heritage. The creation of Thanjavur art plate is credited to Raja Serfoji II (1797-1832) the Maratha ruler of Thanjavur Tamilnadu who directed his royal artisans to create an object that would reflect the glory of his Kingdom. Silver brass and Copper are encrusted on to each other to create this stunning & beautiful piece of art . The effect of silver in high relief on reddish copper ground is unusual and striking. This art plate has secured Geographical indication in the year 2006.
A Special Cover released on 03 Sep 2015 features this unique piece of Art. The Art Plate and Cancellation feature the World Famous Brihadeeswarar Temple of Thanjavur.This cover was issued during Thanjaipex 2015.
