Thirty Two (32) teams participated and France defeated Brazil 3-0 in the final at Stade de France in Saint Denis to lift the trophy. Croatia defeated The Netherlands to clinch the third place.
Croatia , Japan ,Jamaica and South Africa made their first appearances in World Cup finals.
