Jacob Steinhardt Paintings on Stamps – Israel 1972
Jacob Steinhardt (1887-1968) was a European Jewish Painter and Woodcut artist who came from Zerkow Germany/Poland and settled in Jerusalem in 1933. He studied Art at School of Art Berlin. Though he fought for German Army in WWI on Polish front but migrated to Palestine in 1933. He became a member of Bezalel School Group. In 1934opened an art school in Jerusalem. In 1948 became Chairman of graphics Department at Bezalel Academy ofArt and Design. He served as Director of School from 1954 to 1957.
A Stamp was issued by Israel on 07 Mar 1972 in his honour and it featured a painting of Old Jerusalem by Jacob Steinhardt.
