Tiatr is a musical theatre popular in Goa and Mumbai on the west coast of India. the dramas are mainly performed in Roman Konkani dialects and include Music, Dancing & Singing.
Lucasinho Ribeiro, a young Goan from Bardez can be credited for innovating this unique form called Goan Tiatr 125 years ago. Along with Joao Fernandez, Ribeiro staged the first Tiatr on Easter Sunday, April 17,1892 at New
NewAlfred theatreAlfred Theatre in Mumbai (then Bombay).
It was titled “Italian Bhugro” and was a Konkani adaption of English Opera “Italian Bhugro” by Rebeiro.
A set of two stamps were issued on 17 Apr 2018 to commemorate the 125th Anniversary of Goan Tiatr. A FDC is listed.
