Stamps on Suffrage in South West Africa -1989
The Election Commission of India recently announced holding of elections for the lower house of Indian Parliament -The Lok Sabha. Elections are an important part of Democracy. One such historic elections were South West African elections of 1989 which paved the way for a new Independent Nation Namibia in 1990.
As per Tripartite accord of 1988 the South African Troops were withdrawn from South West Africa. The UN established the UN transition assistance group which facilitated free and fair elections under UN observers to pave the way for the election of Constituent Assembly of Namibia upon Independence in Mar 1990. These elections were held from 07 to 11 Nov 1989
A set of Four stamps was issued by South-West Africa on UN resolution for Suffrage on 24 Aug 1989. Stamps on elections in SWA featured the ballot box and voter. FDC is listed.
