Antique Music Instruments on Stamps -Stradivari Violin & Mandora -Canada 1981.

An exhibition called “The Look Of  Music was held in Vancouver in 1981. A 17 cent stamp was issued on the exhibition & antique instruments on 19 Jan 1981 by Canada. The stamp featured 18th Century Mandora and the cover design featured a Stradivari Violin of 18th Century.

Antonio Stradivari (1644-1737 ) was an Italian luthier and a crafter of string instruments such as violins, cellos, guitars, violas & harps. It is estimated that Stradivari produced 1116 instruments, 960 of which were violins. Around 650 instruments survived including 450 to 512 violins.

Mandora is an 18th Century Lute with six to nine courses of strings. Mandora was common in Northern Italy.
