100th Birth Anniversary Yehudi Menuhin – Stamps of Kyrgyzstan 2016
Yehudi Menuhin, Baron Menuhin, OM, KBE (22 Apr 1916 -12 Mar 1999 )was an American-born violinist and conductor whose professional career was mostly based in Britain. He is considered one of the greatest violinists of the 20th Century. He has used Soil Stradivarius, Lord Wilton Guarnerius1742,1733 Stradivari violins among others for his concerts. He was closely associated with San Francisco Symphony Orchestra and with music company EMI for 70 years. He also took Yoga lessons from BKS Iyengar and Indra Devi.
He was also a known Philatelist and was the head of International Philatelic Association “Philatelic Music Circle”.He was Judge in an international Philatelic Competition for the musical subject. Since 2001 the annual award for the best music theme postage stamps has been named after Y Menuhin.
Kyrgyzstan issued a postage stamp on 08 Sep 2016 to mark his 100th Birth Anniversary. The 50 som stamp had a print run of 8,000. A First Day Cover with stamp is listed.
