150th Anniversary of Sile Lighthouse Turkey-2010
Turkey issued a stamp on 01 May 2010 to commemorate 150th Anniversary of Sile Lighthouse A FDC is listed. The 75 Kurus stamp has a print run of 250,000.
Sile Lighthouse – It is located in Sile town near the coasts of Black Sea North of Istanbul. Sile is the largest active lighthouse in Turkey and second largest in the World. It is 19 meters high and 60 metres above sea level. It was built between 1859-60 during the reign of Ottoman Sultan Abdulmecit. Originally it was gas operated and in 1968 the power system switched to electricity. In 2000 it was also turned into a museum.
