Discovery of AIDS Virus – Stamps of France 1994.
The AIDS virus was discovered in 1983 by different research groups who gave this virus different names. The groups under Dr Gallo, Dr Luc Montagnier at Pasteur Institute Paris and Dr Jay Levy at the University of San Francisco California identified the AIDS virus. Dr Luc Montagnier was awarded the Nobel Prize in Medicine for 2008 for this discovery along with two other scientists.
France issued a stamp with label on Discovery of AIDS virus on 01 Dec 1994 on World Day to combat AIDS. The 2.80 Fr stamp with a label is listed. It was also part of EUROPA issue of 1994.
