Miniature Sheet on Jallianwala Bagh Massacre -India -2019
India issued a miniature sheet with two stamps on the theme 100 Years of Jallianwala Bagh Massacre on 13 April 2019. 13 April is celebrated as Baisakhi -the harvest festival and establishment of Khalsa Pant by Guru Gobind Singh. On 13 Apr 1919 thousands of people had peacefully gathered to celebrate these festivals in Jallianwala Bagh -an open park-in Amritsar when Dyer moved with non-British Soldiers and without warning opened fire on unarmed, innocent Men. Women and Children from all sections and religions of Society. He had blocked the only exit. Dyer was responsible for the massacre of thousands of Indians. This massacre was avenged by Sardar Udham Singh when he killed Dyer in London on 13 Mar 1940. A memorial and a Museum are now a testimony to this massacre.
