APS Cover Apr 2019 – Platinum Jubilee Battle of Kangla Tongbi

APS Cover issued on 07 Apr 2019 to mark Platinum Jubilee of Battle of Kangla Tongbi. The Japanese tried to overrun 221 Advance Ordnance  Depot in 1944 which was located in Kangla Tongbi Village near Imphal. The Men of the Ordnance Depot fought a heroic battle under Major JPM Boyd and launched counter-attacks on Japanese forces from 5-7 Apr 1944. The Japanese were held at Bay and arms, ammunition and warlike stores were shifted to Imphal. Major was awarded the Military Cross and a memorial was constructed at Kangla Tongbi in 1946 which is being maintained by Army Ordnance Corps.
