APS Cover Jul 2019 – Birth Centenary of Lieutenant General Sagat Singh
APS Cover issued on 14 Jul 2019 to commemorate the Birth Centenary of Lieutenant General Sagat Singh, PVSM (14 Jul 1919-26 Sep 2001). He was born in Churu, Rajasthan. He studied in Walter Nobles high School Bikaner and Doongar College Bikaner.
- Joined as a Naik in Bikaner Ganga Risala in 1938 to begin his Military Career.
- Commissioned as 2nd Lieutenant and transferred to Sadul Light Infantry (Now 19 Rajput).
- Attended Middle East Staff Course in 1943 and 12th War Staff Course in Quetta in 1945.
- In 1950 transferred to 3rd Gorkha Rifles and Commanded 2nd and 3rd battalions.
- In Dec 1961 led his Para Brigade in Liberation of Goa.
- In 1971 led a Corps during Liberation of Bangladesh.
- He was awarded Padma Bhushan and PVSM and Bangladesh posthumously awarded him “Friends of Liberation War” Honour.
