4th Battalion Brigade of Guards (1 Rajput) – 225 Years of Glory and Valour -15 Sep 2023
The 4th Battalion Brigade of Guards was raised on 15 Sep 1798 at Sasseram , Bihar. It had been part of Battle of Delhi in 1803 , was awarded an Honorary Colour. It was part of Battles of Bharatpur in 1805 and 1826. it again took part in Boxer Rebellion in China in 1900 and in WWI saw active participation at Dujaila Redoubt. During WW II it saw action in Burma . It took the Japanese Surrender at Andaman and Nicobar Islands in 1945 ( Celebrating 75 Years in 2020).
Naik Jadu Nath Singh of 1 Rajput (Now 4 Guards ) who was awarded the Param Veer Chakra in 1948 for his heroic deeds , Bravery , Courage and ultimate sacrifice while defending his post in Naushera. WHEN COURAGE OVERSHADOWS FEAR.
Jadunath Singh was born in 1916 at Village Khajuri,Tehsil Jalalabad , District Shahjahanpur of Uttar Pradesh in a Peasant Rajput Family. He joined the Army as a Soldier during Second World War. In 1943 after completing his training he was posted to First Battalion of the 7th Rajput Regiment (NOW 4 Guards (1Rajput)). His story of Valour at Taindhar in Naushera in 1948 is written in Golden letters in the Battalion and Nation’s history.
In 1948 Naik Jadunath Singh made the supreme sacrifice at Taindhar on 06 Feb 1948 and was awarded the Param Vir Chakra , Nation’s Highest Gallantry Award. This Day is celebrated as Taindhar Day and the Battalion was awarded the Battle Honour.
APS issued a Special Cover on 06 Feb 1978 to commemorate 30th Anniversary of his Martyrdom .
