Although ancient Estonians perfected the craft of baking rye bread more than a millennium, another gastronomic gem comes from a smaller southern tribe called the Mulks. When farm buying became possible in late 19 centuries, a great migration started and influenced Mulks who carried their distinct culinary customs with them across Estonia. Mulgi dishes, including the mulgi cabbage stew, found their way on every Estonian table thanks to their open hearts and vibrant energy. Some of the reasons this meal is listed in the Estonian Intangible Cultural Heritage register and rightfully regarded as a national dish of Estonia are a real taste of home shared by those who believed in good cuisine and togetherness.
