National Milk Day India 2025
on 26 November, we proudly observe National Milk Day, a moment dedicated to honouring the remarkable contributions of Dr. Verghese Kurien, the legendary architect of India’s White Revolution. His visionary leadership transformed India from a milk-deficient nation into the world’s largest milk producer, empowering millions of dairy farmers and strengthening rural communities at a scale the world had never seen before.
Dr. Kurien’s work through dairy cooperatives reshaped not only the nation’s dairy landscape but also demonstrated the power of organized community participation, transparent value chains, and inclusive growth. His efforts gave rise to innovative models—such as the Anand Pattern and AMUL—that continue to inspire sustainable development across industries even today.
National Milk Day is also a reminder of the pivotal role played by India’s dairy farmers. Their daily dedication—from early morning milking routines to maintaining livestock health, hygiene, and feed quality—ensures that households across the country receive fresh, nutritious milk every single day. Their contribution is the heart of the dairy value chain. Today, we express our deepest appreciation to these farmers whose determination fuels the nation’s nutrition and economic resilience.

Empowering Women Through Dairy
Women constitute 70% of India’s dairy workforce and 35% of cooperative members. Over 48,000 women-led cooperatives and 16 all-women Milk Producer Organisations (MPOs) highlight their growing influence.
The Shreeja Milk Producer Organisation in Andhra Pradesh, which received the International Dairy Federation’s Dairy Innovation Award, stands out as a model of gender-driven cooperative success.
