Special Cover India 2025 – Grizzled Squirrel Wildlife Sanctuary.

A Special Cover was released on Srivilliputhur Grizzled Squirrel Wildlife Sanctuary on 9th Oct 2025 at Srivilliputhur.

Srivilliputhur Grizzled Squirrel Wildlife Sanctuary, located in Tamil Nadu’s Virudhunagar district, was established to protect the endangered Grizzled Giant Squirrel. Spread across about 485 square km along the Eastern slopes of the Western Ghats, it hosts diverse habitats including dry and moist deciduous forests and patches of evergreen vegetation. The sanctuary supports rich wildlife such as elephants, leopards, Nilgiri tahr, and over 200 bird species. As part of an important ecological corridor, it helps maintain regional biodiversity. Trekking routes offer opportunities to observe unique flora and fauna, making the sanctuary significant for both conservation and nature tourism.
