SOYUZ 3 MISSION -USSR 1968 Cover

Philately related to the Soyuz 3 space mission primarily focuses on the flight of cosmonaut Georgy Beregovoy from October 26–30, 1968. It was the first manned Soviet mission after the Soyuz 1 disaster. First Day Covers (FDCs): These were officially issued on December 14, 1968, to commemorate the successful flight. They often feature a portrait of Beregovoy and a depiction of the Soyuz 3 spacecraft or its orbit.

The USSR released a specific “Space Flight of Soyuz 3” series in 1968. These stamps typically depict Beregovoy, the mission lift-off, or the spacecraft in orbit.  Cosmonaut Georgy Beregovoy was the sole crew member and, at age 47, the oldest person to go to space at that time.

Collectors value Soyuz 3 items as symbols of the Soviet Union’s return to manned spaceflight after a 1.5-year hiatus following the loss of Vladimir Komarov.
