Postcards of GDR- Goethe-Schiller Monument.
German Sculptor Ernst Friedrich August Rietschel (1804-1861) created a bronze double statue of Johann Wolfgang Goethe (1749-1832) and Friedrich Schiller (1759-1805), who are probably the two most revered Literary figures in Germany. These statues were installed in front of Court theatre in Weimar in 1857. This monument is perhaps the most beloved monuments in Germany. It is a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
Goethe was a Poet, Novelist and Playwright whereas Schiller was a Poet, Playwright, Philosopher and Historian. Both were great friends and lived at the same time in Weimar.
GDR issued a postage stamp on this monument on 02 Jul 1990 and also a Postcard.
