The Rugby World Cup is played every Four Years. The Inaugural World Cup was played in 1987 and was co-hosted by New Zealand and Australia. Eight editions of World Cup have been held till now. The last World Cup was played in England in 2015 and next world Cup which will be Ninth World Cup is scheduled to be held in Japan from 20 September 2019 to 02 November 2019. There will twenty teams participating in 2019 Rugby World Cup. New Zealand is current World Champions and has won the Webb Ellis Trophy thrice, Australia and South Africa have won it twice and England have won it once.

Japan issued a miniature sheet containing ten stamps on 2019 Rugby World Cup on 06 Sep  2019. Each stamp features Flags of participating countries.

Introduction

  •  The 2020 Tokyo Summer Olympic Games will be held from 24 July to 09 August 2020 in Tokyo
  • These will be the Games of XXXII Olympiad.
  • 206 nations are expected to take part in 339 events in 33 sports.
  • Over 11,000 athletes are expected to arrive at. various venues.
  • National Stadium in Tokyo will host the Opening Ceremony.

Stamps on Tokyo 2020- Japan Post released a set of Stamps for sale on 12 Mar 2019- 500 days before the opening of the Games. A sheet of 10 stamps featuring the Mascots for  Olympics and Paralympics and the Tokyo Stadium were issued.

Emperor Naruhito( born 23 Feb 1960) of Japan acceded to Chrysanthemum throne on 01 May 2019 following the abdication of his father, Emperor Akihito on 30 April 2019. It ended the Heisei era and beginning of Reiwa era. He is the 126th Monarch of Japan according to Japan’s traditional order of succession.

Naruhito was born on 23 Feb 1960 to Crown Prince Akihito and Michiko Shoda. He had his schooling from the prestigious Gakushuin school system and graduated from Gakushuin University in 1982. He studied in Merton College, Oxford University from 1983 to 1986. A keen mountaineer, during his stay in England he climbed the highest mountain peaks in England, Scotland and Wales.

He first met Masako Owada at a tea for Infanta Elena, Duchess of Lugo, in Nov 1986 during her studies in University of Tokyo. He was captivated by her and proposed to her three times before the Imperial Palace announced their engagement on 19 Jan 1993. Their marriage took place on 09 June 1993 at the Imperial Shinto hall in Tokyo, before 800 invited guests and estimated media audience of 500 Million.

Emperor Naruhito and Empress Masako have one daughter, Aiko, Princess Toshi, born ono1 Dec 2001.

Japan issued a miniature sheet on13 Oct 1993 to celebrate the Wedding of Crown Prince Naruhito and Masako Owada held in Tokyo on 09 Jun 1993. A Five Hundred Yen coin was also issued to commemorate the Imperial Wedding.

The 1972 Winter Olympic Games were held in Sapporo Japan from 03 Feb to 13 Feb 1972. This was the XIth edition of Winter Olympic Games. The First Winter Olympic Games were held in Chamonix, France in 1924. The next Olympic Games will be held in Beijing in 2022.

Japan won three medals at 1972 games (1Gold,1 Silver & 1 Bronze). USSR topped the medals tally with 16 Medals (8 Gold, 5 Silver & 3 Bronze Medals).
