Youth Olympic Games (YOG) is an international multi-sport event organised by the international Olympic Committee every four Years. The First edition of Summer Youth Olympic Games was held in Singapore from 14 August to 26 August 2010 while the first Winter Youth Olympic Games was held in Innsbruck, Austria from 13 to 22 January 2012. The age limit for participation in these Games is 14 to 18 years. The original idea for such an event was introduced by an Austrian industrial manager Mr Johann Rosenzopf in 1998. The concept was in response to the growing global concerns about childhood obesity and low levels of participation of youth in sporting activities.
The initial response of IOC to holding of a purely sporting event for Youth was negative. It was decided to include Cultural and Education program as part of games. Mr Jacques Rogge, the then IOC President ,formally ratified the plans for Youth Olympic Games at the 119th IOC Session in Guatemala City on 06 July 2007. Singapore was chosen to host the First Summer Edition on 21 February 2008. The scond edition was held in Nanjing China in 2014 .
