National Police Memorial Delhi – Miniature Sheet India 2018
21 Oct every year is observed as Police Commemoration day in honour of 10 Policemen martyred in Hot Springs area of Ladakh by Chinese troops. Prime Minister of India Shri Narendra Modi dedicated the National Police Memorial to the Nation on 21 Oct 2018 at Kautilya Marg Chanakyapuri New Delhi. It is spread over an area of 6.12 acres and consists of 30 foot (9.1meter) tall and 238-tonne black granite central sculpture, Museum and Wall of Valour. It also commemorates the 34,844 Policemen from all Central and State Police Forces of India who have laid down their lives. This is the latest, beautiful and a fantastic addition to Delhi’s rich architectural heritage. The entry to the Memorial is free. It is spread over a large area with beautiful ambience. The newly built underground museum is an excellent place to visit with artefacts, history, badges, books, uniforms over the ages. The wall of valour has names of all martyrs inscribed on it.
The Underground Museum has a Philatelic section where stamps, First Day Covers and Special Covers on Police Forces are displayed.
India Post issued a Miniature Sheet on 22 Dec 2018 containing two stamps on National Police Memorial. The stamps were printed at Security Printing Press, Hyderabad. Quantity printed was 534000 of each stamp and 1.6 Lakh miniature sheets were printed.
