Abu I-Qasim Ferdowsi Tusi (Firdausi) (c940 -1020) was a Persian Poet and author of Shahnameh (“Book of Kings”) which is considered to be World’s longest epic poem written by a single poet. It is also the national epic of Greater Iran. Ferdowsi is celebrated as the most influential figure in Persian literature and one of the greatest in the history of Literature.
He was born into a family of Iranian landowners ( Dehqans) in 940 in the village of Paj, near the city of Tus, in the region of Khorasan of the Samanid Empire. His later works were completed under the Ghaznavid empire.
Iran issued a set of 16 Large Stamps /Sheetlets / Miniatures on 27 Dec 1990 to mark an International Congress on Works of Abu I-Qasim Ferdowsi. Some Catalogues list them as stamps some as sheetlets. They are Imperforate and each is 60x75mm in size. Six have a face value of 100r and 10 have a face value of 200r each.
Stamps on Kazi Nazrul Islam – Pakistan ,Bangladesh & India
Kazi Nazrul Islam (25 May 1899-29 Aug 1976) was a revolutionary Poet of Bengal .He was born in Churulia in Bengal (India).He composed nearly 3000 songs. He Shot to fame through All India Radio Calcutta . He was awarded Padma Bhusan by Government of India . After formation Bangladesh he moved to Bangladesh in 1972 and breathed his last in 1976. He was National Poet of Bangladesh and conferred the award of “Ekusey Padak” by Government of Bangladesh.
Pakistan honoured him by issuing a set of two stamps during his lifetime on his 69th Birth Anniversary on 25 Jun 1968.

Bangladesh issued a set of two stamps on his first Death Anniversary on 29 Aug 1977.
Bangladesh issued a stamp on his Birth Centenary on 31 Dec 1998.
India issued a stamp on his Birth centenary on 14 Sep 1999.

One stamp features Fernando Antonio Nogueira Pessoa ( 13 Jun 1888- 30 Nov 1935) commonly known as Fernando Pessoa was a Poet,Writer,Literary Critic ,Translator,Publisher and Philosopher. His most notable work includes Mensagem (1934).
The second stamp features Joao da Cruz e Sousa (24 Nov 1861 – 19 Mar 1898) was a Brazilian Poet and Journalist ,famous for being one of the first Symbolist poets ever. A descendant of African slaves he has received the epithets of “Black Dante” & “Black Swan”.
Poets on Iran- India Joint Issue Stamps -Iran 2004
Poets was the theme of Joint issue of Stamps by Islamic Republic of Iran and India in 2004. Islamic Republic of Iran issued two stamps on 16 Aug 2004 featuring Persian Poet Hafez and Indian Poet Kabir.
Hafez (1315-1390) was born in Shiraz and is known as a Mystic Poet who wrote Ghazals & Irfan. His major work was Divan-e-Hafez.
Kabir- He was a 15th Century Indian mystic poet and saint whose writings influenced Hinduism’s Bhakti movement and his verses are found in Sikhs holy scripture Guru Granth Sahib.His legacy continues through Kabir Panth. His Couplets and Dohas are well known.
