The 1976 Winter Olympics or XII Winter Olympics were held in Innsbruck Austria from 04- 15 Feb 1976. The then Austrian President Rudolf Kirchschlager inaugurated the Games. A total of 1123 athletes from 37 Nations participated in 6 Sports, 10 Disciplines and 37 events.USSR topped the medals tally with 13 Gold Medals.

Austria issued a set of four stamps on 14 Nov 1975 to commemorate the 1976 Innsbruck Winter Olympics. First Day Covers are being Listed.

East Germany (GDR) topped the medals tally with 09 Gold Medals.

Russia topped the medals tally with 11 Gold Medals Norway bagged the most medals overall -26 ( 10 Gold,11 Silver, 5 Bronze)

A total of 1801 athletes from 64 Nations participated in 6 Sports, 12 Disciplines and 57 events. Germany topped the medals tally with ten Gold Medals. The unified German team was participating for the first time after unification in 1990. This was the last time when the Summer and Winter Olympics were held in the same year. The Winter Olympics were held in Lillehammer Norway in 1994.
