Captain George Vancouver – Stamps of Canada 2007.

Captain George Vancouver¬† (22 Jun 1757-10 May 1798) was born in Norfolk England. He was a British officer of Royal Navy best known for his 1791-95 expedition which explored North America’s northwestern Pacific Coast regions.

Vancouver Island and City of Vancouver British Columbia are named after him. Vancouver Washington, Mount Vancouver of Yukon and Alaska are also named after him. Mt Vancouver, NewZealand’s sixth highest peak in the southern Alps is also named after him.

Lifesize gilded statue of Captain Vancouver stands majestically atop the British Columbia Parliament Building in Victoria. He was one of Britain’s greatest explorers and navigators.

HMS Discovery and HMS Chatham were the two ships which took part in the Vancouver expedition.

Canada issued a $1.55 stamp on 22 Jun 2007 to commemorate 250th Birth Anniversary of Captain George Vancouver.
