Australia State Floral Emblems and Philately – South Australia – Pre Stamped Envelopes Australia 1982

Australia Post issued a set of seven Pre stamped envelopes on the Australian States’ floral emblems on 19 May 1982.

Sturt’s Desert Pea (Clianthus formosus) – It was proclaimed as state floral emblem of South Australia 0n 23 Nov  1961 and honours the explorer Captain Charles Sturt.

A legume it grows throughout the arid regions of the State and is found from the southern coasts of western Australia to the western plains of New South Wales.

The Scarlet flowers with their blue black blotch on the upper petal grow in clusters and boom between June and November. Occasionally white,pink and purple flowers may be sighted.
