Australia State Floral Emblems and Philately – Western Australia – Pre Stamped Envelopes Australia 1982
Australia Post issued a set of seven Pre stamped envelopes on the Australian States’ floral emblems on 19 May 1982.
Mangles Kangaroo Paw (Anigosanthos manglesii) – It was proclaimed as state floral emblem of Western Australia in 1960 in a proclamation by the then Premier of WA David Brand and honours Captain James Mangles a noted English Collector.
It is a perennial plant which grows about one metre high with blue green foliage,deep red flowering stalks and one sided racemes of flower of a deep metallic green surmounting a deep red ovary.
There are about nine species of Kangaroo Paw and all are endemic to south west region of Western Australia.
