Dilip Sardesai 78th Birthday – Indian Test Cricketer
Dilip Narayan Sardesai (08 Aug 1940- 02 Jul 2007) was the only Goa Born Cricketer to play for India. He is regarded as India’s best batsman against spin bowling.
He made his Test Debut versus England at Kanpur in Dec 1961 and went on to play 30 Tests for India from 1961 to 1972 and scored 2001 runs which included Five Centuries . His career had seemed over when he was picked for West Indies tour and it turned out be the high point of his career .He scored 212 in First test at Kingston,scored 112 at Port of Spain and then 150 in 4th Test to aggregate 642 which was highest in the series till Sunil Gavaskar overtook his tally in last Test. At that point of time he was called “Renaissance Man of Indian Cricket”. He was an important player in the Win over England in 1971 series. The 1971 victories over West Indies and England were historic Victories in many ways .
