Removal of Hungary’s border Fence with Austria – Stamps of Hungary 1989

The removal of Hungary’s border fence with Austria took place in 1989 during the collapse of Communism in Hungary.The dismantling of electric fence along Hungary’s 280 km long border with Austria was a first fissure in the Iron curtain that divided Europe for 40 years.

Hungary issued a stamp to mark this occasion on 30 Oct 1989. A card was released on 11 Sep 1990 to mark the First Anniversary of this event.
