125 of Years of First Postage Stamps-Nepal -2006
In 1819 British /Indian residency was established in Nepal.International mail was sent from residency where as internal mail ,mostly documents were sent by messengers. Stamps of India were used in Nepal from 1854. Hand stamped postmarks with number 137 indicated that these Indian stamps were sent from Nepal.
The first stamps of Nepal were issued in 1881- one anna ,two annas and four annas stamps -on European white woven paper.The design shows the crown (sripech) and crossed Gurkha Khukris ( Knife with a curved blade).
On 09 Oct 2006 , Nepal issued a set of three stamps (R5,R 20 & R100) and a miniature sheet with these three stamps (rupees 125). These stamps commemorated 125 Years of Nepal’s First Postage stamps. Two FDC’s with stamps and miniature sheet are listed.
