Joint Issue Canada -USA – St Lawrence Seaway 1984.
0n 26 June 1959, the St Lawrence Seaway was officially opened . Present at the dedication ceremonies held at St-Lambert, Quebec was Queen Elisabeth II, Prince Phillip, President Dwight D Eisenhower and Prime Minister John G Diefenbaker.
St Lawrence is a joint Canada-USA project composed of locks, canals, Channels and hydroelectric power dams. it permits ocean-going vessels to travel from the Atlantic Ocean to the Great Lakes ofNorth America as far inland as the Western end of Lake Superior. The seaway is named after St Lawrence River which flows from Lake Ontario to the Atlantic Ocean.
Canada and USA issued a stamp each on 26 Jun 1984 to commemorate the 25th Anniversary of St Lawrence Seaway. A First Day cover with the Canadian Stamp of 32 cents cancelled at Cornwall and a 20c USA stamp cancelled at New York is listed. The FDC also features photographs of 1959 Inaugural Function
