Twentieth Century Trains – Stamps of USA 1999

USPS issued a set of Five 33 cents stamps on famous trains of Twentieth Century. The Strip of five stamps was issued on 26 Aug 1999.

33c – Daylight Express – It was called the “Most Beautiful Train in the World” and connected Los Angeles and San Francisco. In 1941 new GS-4 steam locomotives pulled the red, orange and black train along Pacific Ocean beaches.

33c – Congressional -The slogan for the Congressional’s route between New York and Washington was “Every Mile Electrified“. In 1935 the looks of GG-1 locomotive was improved.

33c – 20th Century Limited – It was called a “National Institution” and the “Most Famous Train in the World“.It catered to business travelers on in superfast 16-hour journey between Chicago & New York. In 1936 its J-3a steam locomotives and Pullman Cars were redesigned.

33c – Hiawatha – Running at 100 miles per hour and connecting Chicago, Milwaukee and twin cities it was known as “The Fastest train in America“.In 1938 its F-7 steam locomotives were designed in multiple colors.

33c – Super Chief – Prefferd train of Hollywoods elite travelling between Chicago and Los Angeles via Albuquerque the Super Chief was known as “Train of Stars” Its unique red and silver warbonnet design pulled luxurious stainless steel cars.
