Rare 1943 Bronze Lincoln Penny sells for over $200,000 at an Auction.
A Rare 1943 Bronze Lincoln Penny sold for over $200,000 at a Florida Auction. Heritage auction says more than 30 people bid on the rare coin on Thursday (10 Jan ) night. Only 10 to 15 of these Pennies, mistakenly minted in Bronze instead of steel, are known to exist. They were minted at a time during World War II when Copper and Bronze were being saved to fill metal shortages. Don Lutes found this penny in his pocket as a teenager in 1947. This was the change he received back from a Cafeteria. Since the mint did not authenticate this rare find, he held it till he passed away in September. The auction proceeds shall go to an Athenaeum in Mass.
