Stamps on War of Liberty – GDR 1963
The German Campaign was fought in 1813. The members of Sixth Coalition fought a series of Battles in Germany against French Emperor Napoleon, which liberated the German States from the domination of First French Empire. The high point of the allied strategy was the Battle of Leipzig in Oct 2013. This Leipzig campaign is also known as the Battle of Nations. in early 1814 Allied coalition invaded France Napoleon abdicated and war came to an end formally with the signing of Treaty of Paris in May 1814.
GDR/DDR/East Germany issued a set of Five stamps on 10 Oct 1963 to Commemorate 150th Anniversary of War of Liberty. The stamps feature the following.
5 Pf – Graf Von Gneisenau or August Neidhardt Von Gneisenau (27 Oct 1760 -23 Aug 1831) was a Prussian Field Marshal who played a prominent part in Battle of Nations.
Gebhard Leberecht Von Blucher (16 Dec 1742-12 Sep 1819) was a Prussian General & Field Marshal who led his army against Napoleon I at the Battle of Nations Leipzig 1813 and Battle of Waterloo 1815.
25 Pf – Clear Lutzows Crowd before the Fight.

10 Pf – Cossack and Landwehrkanal in Berlin.
20 Pf -Ernst Moritz Arndt ( 26 Dec 1769-29 Jan 1860) -German Nationalist and Poet . Fought against Napoleonic domination.
Reichsfreiherr vom und zum stein known as Baron Vom Stein was Prussian Statesman whose Prussian reforms paved the way for Unification of Germany. After the Battle of Leipzig in 1813 became head of the Council for the administration of re-conquered German Countries,

40 Pf – G Von Scharnhorst (1755-1813) was a Hanoverian born Prussian General who took part in Napoleonic Wars.
Prince Kutusow (1745-1813) -Field Marshal in Russian Army, he was one of the best Rusian Generals. took part in Russo-Turkish Wars and Napoleonic Wars

The Cover Design on all three Covers features the Monument to the Battle of Nations in Leipzig built in 1913.
