Food from the Veld – Fruits -Stamps of Venda  -1987.

Venda issued a set of four stamps on Food from the Veld on 02 Oct 1987. These were Fruits Southern Africa. A First Day Cover with stamps is listed.

12c -Mimusops zeyheri – Milkwood or Transvaal red milkwood. The ripe yellow fruits are sweet and edible. Wood is used for making wagons.

25c- Ziziphus mucronata– Also known as Buffalo thorn. Leaves used like spinach, seeds can be roasted and used as a substitute for coffee, the fruit is used for making local beer.

30c – Citrullus lanatus – Citrus fruits from the watermelon and melon family.

50c – Berchemia discolor– Fruit is edible,used to make beer and has medicinal value.
