USA issued a 5 cent definitive stamp on Pinot Noir Grapes on 24 Feb 2017 in sheets of 20 stamps.

Two clusters of deep purple Pinor noir grapes are depicted growing on vines among several green leaves on stamps designed by Derry Noyes. Grapes have been grown for thousands of years and can be eaten as table fruit,dried to produce raisins or crushed to produce Wine and Juice. The Pinot noir grape can produce one of the most highly prized and elegant wines in the World.

Burgundy in France was earlier home to this variety but now grown in Northern California ,Oregon and New York.

Pears are one of world’s oldest cultivated fruits .They grow on medium sized,long lived  ,flowering trees that generally bear fruits from fourth to sixth year onwards. A large number of varieties green,red,yellow and brown are grown throughout the World. Due to spontaneous mutation process a green pear bearing tree may surprise with red pears on a stock branch.Red pears otherwise are hybridised or are a result of crossbreeding of different varieties.These low calorie fruits are agood source of Fiber,Potassium and Vitamin C.

The Pair of Red Pears stamp has been designed by Derry Noyes.

They’re particularly prevalent during Ramadan, when they’re often given as gifts and eaten to break the fast. They also play an important part in the agriculture of the region: there are more than 400 varieties of date in the UAE and date production makes up the majority of fruit and vegetable farming in the UAE. In 2005, the figures were as high as 60 percent.

The Quince was declared Switzerland’s Fruit of Year 2017.To mark this special honor a limited edition miniature sheet was issued on 31 Aug  2017 which gives off fragrance of Quince.

FRUCTUS has designated a fruit of every year since 2008. It is a charitable organisation established in 1985 as a nationwide association in Switzerland to promote a gene bank for all fruit varieties and standard orchards.

The name Quince derives from latin word “malium cydonium” or cydonian apple .

Quince is a stone fruit. A very few foreign varieties can be eaten raw. The Quince found in Switzerland are known for their heady fragrant scent and many delicacies that can be prepared from them .

The miniature sheet features the refreshing color and shape of this fruit as well as its sensuous aromas. the fruit on miniature sheet is treated with a special varnish which releases the aroma when touched.
