About International Year of Fruits and Vegetables 2021
The General Assembly of the United Nations has declared 2021 the International Year of Fruits and Vegetables (IYFV). The main responsibility for conducting the IYFV belongs to the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO).
The IYFV has four main objectives:
– Raising public awareness and draw the legislative bodies attention to the benefits of fruits and vegetables consumption for human health and nutrition;
– Promoting balanced and diversified healthy diets through fruits and vegetables consumption;
– Reducing losses and waste in food systems;
– Sharing best practices in the consumption, production, storage, transportation, processing and retailing of fruits and vegetables.
