Germany has issued a stamp on Hanse Cities to mark 650th Anniversary of Hanseatic League. This stamp featuring ships was a joint issue with Sweden
The Hanseatic League was a commercial and defensive confederation of merchants and markets in Northwestern and central Europe. It started with few North German towns in the late 1100s, the league came to dominate Baltic maritime trade for three centuries along the coasts of Northern Europe. Cities from Germany, Netherlands, Sweden, Estonia, Poland etc formed part of the league which dominated till the 1450s. Some cities are Bremen, Hamburg, Lubeck, Stockholm, Riga, Deventer.
