The First Winter Olympics were held in Chamonix, France in 1924 in which 16 Nations participated in 6 Sports, 9 Disciplines and 16 events in Men’s and Women’s Category.
The 1980 Winter Olympics or XIII Winter Olympics were held in Lake Placid USA from 13- 24 Feb 1980. The then USA Vice President Walter Mondale inaugurated the Games. A total of 1072 athletes from 37 Nations participated in 6 Sports, 10 Disciplines and 38 events.USSR topped the medals tally with 10 Gold Medals.
